Legal Services of Southern Piedmont
Legal Services of Southern Piedmont and Legal Aid of North Carolina, Charlotte hosted the seventh annual Justice for All Luncheon March 19 at the Westin Hotel with keynote speaker N.C. Attorney General Roy Cooper to highlight the need for and the work of ensuring access to justice for the Charlotte area's low-income community. Close to 400 attendees heard an address by Cooper, in addition to legal aid leaders from LSSP and LANC, that stressed the importance of serving low-income families and individuals whose basic human rights were threatened by their inability to pay for legal representation in civil legal matters. Supporters at the lunch heard the stories of North Carolinians protected from domestic violence, fraud and homelessness with the help of the nonprofits' staffs. "There is no freedom for everyone without justice for everyone," Cooper said at the event. "Meaningful access to the justice system for those who can't afford representation is critically important to justice." | |
